STAMPS & CIGARETTE CARDS
Various countries have issued stamps featuring artwork of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Some of these stamps can be purchased. Sometimes small picture cards were given away also with products like cigarettes, coffee etc. There is an archive page of these stamps and cigarette cards. Thanks to Jeanne Eklund for this link!
STEEN, JAN - DUTCH (1625-1679) - These paintings contain a small spaniel type dog that look very much like a Cavalier. The artist could not support his large family with his paintings along so he operated a tavern on the side. His artwork reflects his lifestyle and his occupation. There are always interesting personalities in the paintings. Some have suggested it is a different breed. It is interesting the different "look" that you can see across the centuries and throughout other countries. Is this a Cavalier? You be the judge. All of the works below can be viewed at the CGFA website on these pages. Click on thumbnails for large image.
